29 September 2002, Universiti Islam Antarabangsa, Gombak
Organised by : Thomson Chong of Jump Square and IIUM
Venue: UIA Parking lot
Class: 1/10th Nitro touring car 200mm

It was early in the morning, many cars were seen heading to the Islamic University in Gombak using
the Karak Highway. Today is UIA 18th convocation fiesta day and many events were held in
conjunction with this, we saw events from sports down to food were organised for visitors and
family. Very beautiful university indeed, situated in a hilly area, spacious and fresh air!
But for racers from Klang, PJ and KL, its quite a far trip, about 50-80km to this University. Morning
rain made the day gloomy but did not deter us from giving up (but almost did). The drizzles came
on and off..making the track's traction very inconsistent.

The race were able to start off at about 2.30pm...and with time running out for the day, the
qualifying heats were reduce to 2 heats and finals for all A to D mains. We have about 40 entries this
time. After the morning shower, track were blown to dry by air compressor so that we can start off soon.

Track is wide and big, surface was medium traction type due to sand, traction was poor in the earlier part
but was high after it was swept clean by the time all the cars completed their heats.

Again Team Associated NTC3 swept all top 3 positions and Top Qualifier in this race (double celebration
for the NTC3, because it just won the IFMAR 2002 World Champion 1/10 Touring Car 200mm too)
The track looks easy and wide enough for high speed but then there were plenty 180 degree corners and
2 tricky chicanes made the track not so easy in the end. My engine was flooded during the start and
very thankful to Mr.Thomson to allow me a few minutes to get it going, otherwise the race would have
started without the Top Qualifier! Ok...Final A starts..and I had a clean lead from the start but half way into
the race, my car lost its brakes, slowing down my lap times a lot...and with Azri closing in , I have to make
way for Azri to take over the lead and followed closely by Steven Mong. Confused as to what causes the
brake to failed, we check it out immedietaly after the end of the race, 2 screws came off from the bottom
chassis that holds the aluminum centre block, this suppors the 2-speed system and brake pads, without
a strong mount, the brake pads were not clamping the carbon disc. Surprisingly the car runs as usual
except without brakes!! I managed to finished the race. Both Azri and me were using Cool Running fuel
for the first time, and finds that it just works about the same like those branded/imported ones.

Winners from left to right :
Azri, Steven Mong, Daniel, Wong, Andreas and Anthony Tan

Another great race by Thomson...and we were told coming race with be at Subang Airport 'runway'
during the muslim fasting month (bulan Puasa) time. Again thanks to Thomson for providing me the
results slip, with this the below results can be posted as soon as I managed to get to my PC.
